Fence Panel Buying Guide

Choosing the right fence panels for your outdoor space can be a little challenging with the number of options available.

These days fencing is seen more than just the bit around the boundary of our garden that kept the dog and kids in and neighbours and unsavoury characters out.

Fencing is now seen differently; it can be quite a statement piece when used correctly. Used at the front of the property, it can give a modern look with clean lines or bold colours. It can be the backdrop to planting or a garden feature. It can offer complete privacy or be slatted to let in light and the view from the other side.

Our wide range of design options and timber choices ensures you find the ideal fit, considering factors like durability, maintenance, colours, and lifespan. Let’s briefly look into each fence panel type’s benefits and unique features on our website.

Slatted Fence Panels: Our modular slatted fence panels provide a contemporary and visually appealing design. Handbuilt in our workshop using our 44mm slats, with a choice of a 6mm or 12mm gap between the slats. Available in various heights ranging from 300mm to 2100mm and widths of 1800mm and 2100mm, as well as bespoke width and height options, these panels are perfect for those seeking a modern and stylish look.

Privacy Panels: As the name suggests, our privacy panels are an excellent choice for complete privacy while still giving the look of a slatted panel. Built with our very special (although a rather odd width) 61mm interlocking slats, when the interlocking slats are overlapped with each other, they create the look of a 44mm slat but with no actual gap; instead, a 5mm shadow line is made to ensure no visible gaps. Available in heights from 600mm to 2100mm and widths of 1800mm and 2100mm, these panels are perfect for those who value seclusion in their outdoor space and as always, bespoke options are available to order

Solid Panels: Our solid fence panels are the big brother to our privacy panels. These panels feature the same interlocking/overlap profile but in a wider 94mm board. When overlapped, this creates a wider 77mm slat with the 5mm shadow line, again with no actual gaps, offering complete privacy with height options from 600mm to 2100mm and widths of 1800mm and 2100mm and, as always, bespoke options available.

Sunrise Panels: Our unique Sunrise panels combine 94mm interlocking boards with 44mm slats, resulting in a modern take on an old design. These panels feature a slatted top section, adding an elegant touch to your fence. The slatted section ranges from approximately 300mm to 360mm in height, depending on the chosen gap size (6mm or 12mm). Available in heights from 900mm to 2100mm and widths of 1800mm and 2100mm, these panels offer privacy while allowing natural light to brighten your outdoor area.

Vertical Panels: Our vertical fence panels provide versatility with interlocking 94mm slats. You can choose between a trellis top finish or standard capping, allowing customization to suit your style preferences. With a width of 1800mm and height options ranging from 600mm to 1800mm, these panels offer a stylish alternative to standard slatted finishes.

Wide Board Panels: Our wide board fence panels feature 94mm wide boards with a 6mm gap between each slat. This design provides an appealing look while maintaining a balanced level of privacy. Width options are set at 1800mm or 2100mm, with height options from 600mm to 1800mm. Customization for gap size is available upon request.

Hit and Miss Panels: If you prefer a contemporary slatted style with ensured privacy, our hit-and-miss fence panels are the ideal choice. Constructed with 44mm slats, they feature a unique pattern where the rear of the panel has slats with the corresponding gap on the front, creating an eye-catching design and offering the same slatted look on both sides, ideal if the panel is seen from both sides. Available in heights from 300mm to 2100mm and widths of 1800mm and 2100mm, these panels ensure privacy from neighbours and passers-by.

Wall Panels: Our wall fence panels combine 44mm and 94mm slats placed in a random pattern and running vertically, creating an attractive and sturdy design. The panels have been designed to fit in between brick pillars and offer the same stunning look on each side, so if used on a front wall, for example, neighbours and passers-by see a beautiful design and the same is seen from the house. These panels also feature a picture frame effect, adding a finishing touch to their overall appearance. Standard height options are 600mm, 900mm, and 1200mm, with width options of 1800mm and 2100mm, with bespoke options available to order.

Bespoke Panel Options: While we provide standard sizing and option variants for each fence panel, we also offer customization options and can tailor the panels to suit your space. Whether it’s different sizing, unique patterns, or painting, our team at Slatted Screen Fencing is here to help you create a personalized solution.

Modular Panel Sections Explained: Our modular fence panels are designed for easy assembly. Panels larger than 900mm in height will arrive in smaller, easy-to-handle, easy-to-install sections. For example, when ordering a panel 1800mm high, instead of a single large panel, these will come as 2x 900mm sections; one will have a capping strip along the top so this can be easily identified, and the other will obviously be the bottom section, and if the team have done their jobs correctly these should also be labelled to make life even easier.

For more information on installing modular panels, see our installation guide on our panel’s page, which can be printed. We also have a short video showing how to install on our installations guides section
